So I know I promised a lesson called, &#8220;When Harry Met Mary,&#8221; but my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/pamwritesromance.wordpress.com\/\">Pam<\/a> left me a comment on Facebook that gave me an idea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So for Lesson 3, I am going to talk about a few words we all know but can be used differently by some (mostly Jewish or Italian) New Yorkers.<\/p>\n<p>Those words are: <strong><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">from, should, what, and where<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to give you your challenge right up front. At the end of this lesson, you will be asked to translate the following passage. (It&#8217;s very <a href=\"http:\/\/www.willwriteforwine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wiffer<\/a> related. If you&#8217;re not a Wiffer, what&#8217;s stopping you? <a href=\"http:\/\/willwriteforwine.com\/forum\" target=\"_blank\">Become one now!<\/a>) You may need to refer back to <a href=\"https:\/\/melinakantor.com\/?p=130\" target=\"_blank\">Lesson 1<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/melinakantor.com\/?p=133\" target=\"_blank\">Lesson 2<\/a> to figure out sentence structure.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wiffers are awesome. They know all about wine and writing. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanidianerich.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lani<\/a> wants people to drink every time she says &#8220;awesome.&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/samanthagraves.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sam<\/a><\/em><em> says that if you need a drink, go to Romeo&#8217;s Liquor.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Part 1<\/span><\/strong>: <strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">From<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Roughly translated, &#8220;from&#8221; is the equivalent of &#8220;about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Here. I&#8217;ll give you a &#8220;for instance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They <em><strong>know from<\/strong><\/em> romance novels, <a href=\"smartbitchestrashybooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Smart Bitches<\/a>. They also <strong><em>know from<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com\/index.php\/book\/\" target=\"_blank\">heaving bosoms<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Part 2<\/span><\/strong>: <strong><em><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Should<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Roughly translated, &#8220;should&#8221; is the equivalent of &#8220;wanting somebody to do something.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another &#8220;for instance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When my uncle told me he was upset that I was making chicken for both of our seders, I said to him, &#8220;What? You <em><strong>want [that] I should knock myself out<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0in the kitchen?&#8221; He replied that he <em><strong>wanted [that] I should make<\/strong><\/em> a brisket.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My principal was overwhelmed and upset yesterday. She asked me where the gun was because she <em><strong>wanted [that] I should shoot her.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Wiffers (especially <a href=\"http:\/\/pamwritesromance.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pam<\/a>)\u00a0<em><strong>want [that] Sam should watch<\/strong><\/em> Buffy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Part<\/strong> <strong>3<\/strong><\/span>: <em><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">What and Where<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Roughly translated, &#8220;what&#8221; is the equivalent of &#8220;something&#8221; or &#8220;anything&#8221; and &#8220;where&#8221; is the equivalent of &#8220;somewhere&#8221; or &#8220;a place to.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The last &#8220;for instance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My friend moved. She told me her living room had a door so it could turn into a guest room. &#8220;When you visit,&#8221; she said, &#8220;you&#8217;ll have <em><strong>where to sta<\/strong><\/em><strong>y<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My friend <a href=\"http:\/\/kimberlyfoley.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kim<\/a> was stuck with a bottle of wine that was so bad she had to pour it out. That night, the poor dear didn&#8217;t have <em><strong>what to drink<\/strong>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Okay, ready? Here&#8217;s your special passage to translate.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wiffers are awesome.
